Owls within touching distance!
I was torn by sadness that these wonderful birds were chained to a post in the marketplace (literally) not for sale but to draw attention to the centre that cares for them, and wonder at the opportunity to be so close to magnificent wild creatures. There were little owls too. I have been fortunate in the past to see owls flying. Although it's not this close I'm sure on balance that the sky is the best place to see them.

Solar energy
Came home from holiday to find scaffolding around two sides of our house - ready to fit solar panels on the roof. For some time we've been saving (including the now-no-longer Winter Fuel Allowance) to try to do our bit for the planet with green energy. At the time of writing we have six solar panels attached to our roof. It's too soon to know the effect of this on our fuel bills. It has changed the pattern of our daily lives because we are now aware that when the sun is shining is a good time to turn on kitchen appliances. There's an app to show how much of the electricity we produce we're using - all of it in these shorter autumn days! In the summer months we hope to be selling more kWh to the Grid.
Pilates class
On the advice of a physiotherpist I recently joined a Pilates class. Here's a picture of our teacher, the patient, super-fit Di Harris. She makes allowances for physical issues and areas of difficulty but nobody is excluded from having a try. The classes provide the one time in the week I can really feel my age. However, afterwards, my muscles tell me it was worth all the effort.

As the screenshot shows, Di teaches more than just Pilates.
