I did it! Seventy new things before my 70th birthday. Last time I posted, at the end of 2024 with three weeks to go before my birthday, I'd listed 63 new things and needed just seven more to hit the target. The last two weeks were so full off new experiences they took me beyond seventy things. I'm not going to try to number them individually. You can count them for me:
Visiting a new (to me) country, in a new continent.
Sailing on a cruise ship on the River Nile. First ever cruise. (I'd like to say it won't be my last but have discovered that cruises are not an eco-friendly way to take a holiday so, sadly, it probably should be my last.)
Going to cities to see so many temples and tombs I've almost lost count - Luxor, Karnak, Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu.
Meeting Egyptian people.
Trying Egyptian food, the range of fish dishes was amazing. Even the fish stalls in the market at Hurghada were beautiful to see.
Wearing Egyptian clothes.
Seeing alabaster jars being made with hand tools.
Seeing how papyrus is made and buying paintings on papyrus to take home as presents.
The whole experience was mindblowing, and quite a culture shock. Egypt is a wonderful and fascinating country, far different from Britain. I count myself blessed to have had the opportunity to go there.
